We are honored to share this USA Today feature: See how certified family herbalist, wellness coach, Moonlighter and entrepreneur, Laura Shofroth turns her quest for relief from chronic illness into success.

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” – Hippocrates

It really works! It’s not a myth. You CAN convert your passion into a successful business. Just ask Laura Shofroth; she can tell you all about it. What started out as a desperate quest to find a non-invasive solution to her debilitating pain, became a life-altering experience she is now sharing with others through her freelance business as a Personal Nutrition Consultant.

In 2005, Laura was diagnosed with a chronic condition called Endometriosis. The prognosis was grim – no cure, just surgery followed by lifelong treatments which could be more devastating than the disease itself. Her initial efforts to find a natural cure turned up empty. She was faced with a decision – follow the traditional procedures or continue exploring for any possible alternatives.

“Something inside of me burst open. My passion to cure myself became undeniable to the extent I absolutely refused to believe there was no cure. To me, there was no other option but to believe that if given the right tools, (vitamins, minerals, foods) the body could and would heal itself.”

It wasn’t easy and it didn’t happen overnight, but Laura succeeded. Through endless research, she learned how to use food as medicine. She changed her diet, stopped using chemicals in and on her body, reduced stress, exercised, and adopted a positive outlook on life. “Within a few weeks, I began to see major transformations in my health. I lost weight, gained energy, and most importantly, the pain was gone.”

It didn’t end there. Laura continued her education and became a Certified Family Herbalist. “This passion became my life. As I spread the word and as people watched my own transformation, I began helping those around me. I taught classes on the basics of healthy eating and juicing, and empowered others to get excited about their ability to make easy changes. I have helped those with diabetes, skin problems, lupus, digestion issues, weight loss, and anxiety.”

Late last year, this enterprising lady decided to expand her reach by starting her own freelance consulting business. Even though she makes a good living with her full-time job, Laura’s ultimate goal is to transition out of the corporate world and concentrate on what she loves.

As she investigated ways to get her passions discovered through social media, “that’s right around the time I ran into Moonlighting. They were my first step into the gig-economy and building my side hustle, ‘The Miracle of You’. Moonlighting easily gives me the tools to find new clients. I am able to consult person-to-person to help my clients achieve their personal goals of health and weight loss, without depending on traditional diets that are not fail-safe.”

Laura’s legacy is to help people utilizing her knowledge, experience, and philosophy of good health and healthy options, so that no one feels dependent on conventional medicine. “You don’t have to morph into a health nut to achieve success. Through easy instructions and personalized planning, I’ll walk you through the beginning process and empower you all the way.”
