Boomers Crash the Gig Economy Party
Baby Boomers may have been eclipsed by the millennial generation in size this past year, but not in tech savvy. The “Greatest Generation,” as Tom Brokaw coined them, are embracing technology and joining millennials in the new gig economy. These post-depression renaissance men and women are eager to activate their diverse skill sets and resurrect the age old art of Moonlighting.
Many boomers have seen their savings ravaged by the recession and are not standing idly by waiting for the next correction. Instead, our latest M.O.O.N. Report- September 2015 shows how they are proactively leveraging decades of rich work experience to supplement their retirement income and show the whipper snapper millennial generation a thing or two in the process.
As the gig economy continues to rise, the boomers’ entry is further validation that the economy is in fact real and will play a significant role in how we view employment in the future. They say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks but in today’s 1099 movement its the old dogs that are teaching younger generations how to succeed in the new gig economy.
